We Need New Sponsors
As a result of current economic conditions, we are seeing a number of sponsorship cancellations. This leaves us with children who are in school and doing well, but there is no one to continue paying school fees. So far, we have managed to pay all fees from proceeds from the golf tournament. Our reserves, however, are running very low.

University Students
Even though her scores were very high, Jacinta saw no chance of continuing her education when she finished secondary school. Her mother had barely scraped together the money for her and her siblings to attend school. Jacinta knew it would be impossible for her moth
er to find the money for university fees. So after graduating secondary school, Jacinta stayed at home and helped her mother with the other children.
She heard about the Children's Project at church, but she found that the Project only supported children through secondary school. While Dan and I were in Uganda delivering shoes one Christmas, Jacinta approached us and asked if we would consider sponsoring a university student. Dan spoke with her for a while, then came to me and said he wanted to pay for Jacinta's university fees.
Jacinta became the first University graduate
sponsored by the Uganda Chidren's Project when she graduated from Mackere University in January. Jacinta majored in business. Today, she works as a marketing representative for a major computer
peripherals
firm. This young girl without hope only a few years ago now calls on the largest companies in Uganda!
Since Jacinta began taking classes at the university, sponsored students have entered several different programs at universities and technical schools around Kampala. The golf tournament is supporting four university students this year, but the proceeds from the tournament are wearing very thin. Also, we have six students who will not be able to continue to university without a sponsor.
Could you help make a univeristy student's dreams come true? Several are awaiting sponsors. Please
email me
for more information.
Technical School Students
Some students are simply not cut out for university studies! We have a number of students who have decided not to pursue a technical track after completing four years of secondary school. (The university track requires six years of secondary school).
Take Chris, for example. I found Chris working at a large store in downtown Kampala. He had finished high school several years ago and begun working 50+ hours per week. He was helping his mother with her rent and food and saving almost everything else he made at the store. He said he would go to technical school to study computer applications when he had saved enough money. Trouble was it would take him about 8 more years to fund one term. A sponsor agreed to help Chris and he is now succeeding in his technical program.
There are many more opportunities for technical education in fields such as surveying, welding, auto repair, cosmetology, and nurse's aid. Depending on the program, students will study from one to three years. Most programs include an internship where students learn to apply their studies in the real world. Technical school graduates typically find jobs in their fields without difficulty and many actually earn more than university graduates in the first years of employment.
Please

for more information if you would be interested in helping one or more of our technical school students.
