The Uganda Children's Project began in 2001 when a nurse from Uganda visiting us in America learned that her brother-in-law had died and another child would be joining her home when she returned home. School isn't free in Uganda and she already had four children of her along with three other AIDS orphans she had taken in. She couldn't afford another child.

A man agreed to help with the expenses of this child and Lisa and I agreed to route his money to Uganda.

The nurse returned to Uganda. A few weeks later, we received a package with 14 pictures and stories of children in desperate need. The package included a tiny note: THESE KIDS NEED HELP, TOO.

We found sponsors for those kids, and a few weeks later, we received 58 more, then 154. . . and the Project was born!
I'm Jim Steele, Director of the Uganda Children's Project. Today, the Project has grown to nearly 300 sponsored kids living in urban Kampala and several small rural villages in southern Uganda.

A staff of two Ugandan employes administer the project in Uganda. These employes work with an Operating Committee to administer the Project in Uganda. The Committee, which includes one graduate of the program, one current member, and a guardian of a sponsored child locate desperately needy kids, pay their fees, and make sure the kids are cared for.

I have traveled to Uganda eleven times since the project began to check on our kids and audit our funds. Lisa and I head the US arm of the project. We find sponsors willing to help needy children in Uganda.
